Implementation of the UNICEF Youth-Friendly and Youth Initiative

Within the framework of the implementation of the UNICEF Youth-Friendly and Youth-friendly Initiative, secretariat representatives are scheduled to visit the municipalities that are currently implementing the Action Plans.

On October 8, 2019, UNICEF Community Advisor to the Children, Youth and Youth Friendly Program Maryna Khromihik paid a working visit to the city of Uman and visited social protection, education, and health care institutions implementing the Action Plan.

In 2018, Uman became one of the 5 leading cities to receive the international status as a candidate for the prestigious Global Community Friendly to Children and Youth, the City Council approved the 2018-2020 Initiative Action Plan and the Monitoring and Evaluation Plan its implementation.

Work in the framework of the Community “Friendly to Children and Youth” in the city of Uman is carried out in 5 directions and focuses on the achievement of the following main goals in respect of the rights of children and youth:

  • Goal # 1 – The right to recognition, respect and fair treatment;
  • Goal # 2 – The right to be heard;
  • Goal # 3 – The right to health, education and social protection;
  • Goal # 4 – The Right to Security;
  • Goal # 5 – The Right to Childhood.

A coordination council has been set up and mini-groups are meeting regularly to implement the initiative to summarize the implementation of the action plan.

Also within the framework of the initiative in the city of Uman there are provided social transport services “social transportations of Cherkasy region” for children and young people under 35 with disabilities of the musculoskeletal system for delivery to social welfare institutions of the city.

Following the implementation of the Community Friendly to Children and Youth, a number of proposals have been made to supplement the Action Plan with interesting and innovative measures.
