The Programme for media literacy of citizens by the Global Peace and Security Fund, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFATD Canada), in partnership of three organizations: Academy of Ukrainian Press, IREX and StopFake.

The event was aimed at those students who wish to freely navigate in cyberspace, selectively and safely consume the product information to be able to detect and resist fake and manipulated.

The event was attended by 30 students of the second year of the Faculty of Social and Psychological Education University.

During the training, students learned about:

– The difference between information and propaganda;

– Manipulation and struggle with it;

– The language of hatred and stereotypes as a means of manipulation.

The participants received basic knowledge in the field of media, information and inspection tools of critical thinking, familiar with common types of manipulation and propaganda.

During communication students learned a lot about myself as user and consumer self-defined difference between the concepts of “informing” and “propaganda” learned how manipulated public television and learned to identify news satire in social networks of truthful information, self-created tape the morning and evening news.

Interestingly, the main source of accurate information to students felt the beginnings of the training online and STB. But at the end of lessons thought the audience changed, the students believe that now they will constantly check information from sources they trust.

It is particularly important that future psychologists and social workers will be able to transfer this knowledge to their fellow students. After all, if young people learn useful skills and simple analysis of the information, then they shape the demand for accurate information, will be able to resist the propaganda, lies and manipulation.

Organizers of the training of NGO “Democratic Action”, and I coach Marina Kulik got great pleasure from communicating with students, future psychologists and social workers Faculty of Uman Pedagogical University. Tychina and already planning the next meeting, as the topic of media literacy is very crucial and ambiguous.
