Student Action: Student Leadership Development Program

24 червня 2019

One of the prerequisites for implementing the reform of higher education in Ukraine is the development of student leadership and their skills in creating initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency and quality of the educational process at universities.

The British Council in Ukraine contributes to the development of student self-governance and the development of student leaders in Ukraine, therefore, recently, sixty representatives of student self-government have gathered for the first module of the Student Action program in Kyiv.

The Faculty of Social and Psychological Education was represented by Katerina Chupina, a laboratory assistant at the Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work.

In two days, the Student Action program helped us to strengthen our leadership skills in implementing social initiatives. We were able to get practical case studies on the quality of higher education at our university from Michael Vynnytsky. They learned about the peculiarities of communication, pitching and fundraising of their own projects from Timur and Iryna Demchuk.

Interesting was the story of the peculiarities of student self-government functioning from the students of Northumbrian University (Great Britain).

An important part of the training were practical exercises, in particular, tools for influencing the quality of education at universities, especially the dialogue and cooperation between students with the administration of higher education, the role of student self-government bodies and student organizations. A powerful motivation for implementing their own projects was the presentation of successful experience in implementing social initiatives in Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
